RALPH IANNOTTI, SANPRISCHESE D'OLTREOCEANO

«vai alla galleria fotografica» | «Testo in italiano»

A man with a burning desire goes around the streets and Via Pontesano holds him in its grip. He seems to follow a thread of Arianna, descendents perhaps of his father. Between the houses it must have been poor times, simple people, and small courtyards that still accommodate them today. He is fixed and concentrating on every sound, color, face and phrase with his hands clenched. He proceeds followed by his sister and family, there is affectionate confusion from his italian friends and the San Prisco people who watch.

The procession passes under the welcome banner. They do not yield to the commotion and the heat of the Sanp! risches i. The has Assoc of Local History Saint Prisco has helped in the search for his origins.

They are greeted at the small Tower of the Clock in the center of the University of San Prisco. The walls are plastered with old black and white photos and tell of the history of the town with scenes of rural life, weddings, banquets, festivities and patron saint festivals. Photos of those that are guarded by the family of Giuseppe Iannotta, who in far away 1929 left at the age of nine left his native San Prisco in order to begin a new life in the United States with father Raffaele and mother Caterina Abbate.

From years, via the internet, Ralph is in contact with the assoc of Local History San Prisco. And for long he has pretasted this day. The Mayor gives him a salute to the origin of his country by giving him a dedication plaque from the Assoc as a memory of hi! s trip to San Prisco and the land of his father.

The emotions become too strong, hard to contain oneself. This is an acceptance beyond his imagination His sister shares the same feelings. The children now understand his desire and wish to travel and make this trip. It is because of the love for their father who inspired them to make the visit. They will try to tell him of their visit and how they walked the street where he was born and played as a child. Above all they will transmit the joy of their trip and Ralph will remember where it all began for his splendid family.
